ICECAP - Galway Bay Racing

Patrick Owens has a very hands-on approach to training and members of his syndicate will be given exclusive behind the scenes access to his yard in Newmarket. Visits will give you a taste of what goes into preparing and conditioning horses to race, on the historic Jockey Club Estates Newmarket Training Grounds that are steeped in history.

They are a family oriented outfit who are able to generate results on the racecourse from a small team of horses.

2021 filly by Ulysses (IRE) ex Ice Gala (GB)

Read below Patrick’s words about ICECAP

We are delighted to introduce our Cheveley Park Stud regally-bred, 100% GBB registered, beautiful athletic filly ICECAP (GB).

Icecap is a good sized filly with an athletic look and a great loose walk. She has a wonderful attitude to her work, ticks all the boxes in what we look for in a racehorse and passed our vetting with flying colours.

· She is the first foal of 93-rated Ice Gala (by Invincible Spirit), winner of two races and Listed-placed at Newbury.

· 100% GBB bonus eligible. This means that if she wins a GBB race she will automatically win an additional £20,000, on top of the winners prizemoney.

· By ULYSSES, the multiple Group 1 winner including winner of the Eclipse & Juddmonte International and sired 56% stakes winners to runners in 2023. Sire of ODDYSSEY, who Patrick trained to achieve black-type in both the Chesham Stakes, Royal Ascot L. and the Superlative Stakes, Newmarket Gr.2 2023, behind Ballydoyle superstar City Of Troy.

· Ulysses ex Invincible Spirit cross has produced 50% winners to runners and 75% runners rated 80+.

· ICECAP's yearling half-brother sold for £160,000 in August 2023, the most expensive yearling by his sire in 2023, bought for owner Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum, more than double his next highest-priced yearling. If he lives up to his price-tag as a 2yo next year, ICECAP could see her worth increase dramatically as his half-sister.
